Keane Furious At Man United Players Patting De Gea After Final Day Victory

Manchester United legend, Roy Keane blasted United players for patting David De Gea on the back in their win over Fulham at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils goalkeeper, who has already won the golden glove was superb in United’s win over Fulham as he saved Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic’s penalty kick in the first half.

Man United came from a goal down to win the game 2-1. Fulham defender, Kenny Tete drew the first blood when he nodded home, a ferocious header in close range from Willian’s corner kick delivery.

United restored parity through Jadon Sancho who profited from Fred’s mazy run and hit the ball beyond Bernd Leno. Bruno Fernandes sealed the victory for the Red Devils when he found himself in a one-v-one situation to poke the ball home just 10 minutes after the break.

What Did Keane Say About De Gea?

Speaking with Sky Sports after the game, Keane was not overly impressed with his former side’s victory. And was particularly critical of De Gea and blasts the players for patting the shot-stopper at full time.

“Manchester United had to improve defensively from last year because they were so bad,” former United captain Keane said in the Sky Sports studio as cited by Goal.

“They’re all patting De Gea on the back there… I’d move him on quickly. He wouldn’t be for me, he’s not going to get Manchester United back winning trophies, absolutely not.

“The idea that the players are patting him on the back is ridiculous, that’s his job.”

After 12 years of service to the club, De Gea’s contract is set to end in a month’s time. And many have speculated that Erik ten Hag will want to offload him. The 32-year-old is United’s highest earner on his current contract. But his distribution issues cause the team’s head-scratching.

“You wouldn’t keep him as a No. 2, he wouldn’t stay for that,” Keane concluded.
