Following Liverpool’s unexpected FA Cup loss to Championship underdog Plymouth Argyle on Sunday, Roy Keane thinks there are lessons for both Arne Slot and the team to learn.
Ryan Hardie’s penalty in the second half proved to be the difference, and Miron Muslić’s team defeated a weaker Reds team.
Following one loss in each of their Premier League, Champions League, and Carabao Cup campaigns, it was only the Dutchman’s fourth loss since taking over as manager of Anfield.
Ten changes were made from the team that defeated Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 in the second leg to secure Liverpool’s spot in the Carabao Cup final.

Nevertheless, the drastic changes fell short of expectations, and as a result, the Reds had a challenging afternoon on the southwest coast.
According to Liverpool Echo, Keane said during ITV’s coverage of Exeter and Nottingham Forest that the changes from Slot flopped, and the club will take lessons from it.
“It’s up there with the biggest I think really,” he said. “When you see how well Liverpool are going, absolutely brilliant, scoring lots of goals, they made lots of changes which you thought the manager might do and he’s taken a gamble. It’s backfired on him.
“Credit to Plymouth who have been having a difficult season, in terms of giving goals and their home record which is not great. So that is definitely one of the biggest shocks out there.
“Lessons to be learned, particularly for the young players at Liverpool. It’s real football whatever you’re coming through, reserves, academy football. That was proper football and Plymouth really wanted it.”
