Roy Keane reportedly lavished praises on Athletic Club winger, Nico Williams following his incredible display in Spain’s 1-0 victory over Italy in the 2024 European Championship in Germany.
Spain maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign as they secured their spot in the Euro 2024 elimination round.
The team led by Luis de la Fuente has drawn attention in their first two games in Germany. They opened the campaign with a 3-0 triumph against Croatia and won 1-0 against Italy on Thursday.
Actually, there should have been greater emphasis on Spain’s victory. They dominated the Azzurri right from the start, but they couldn’t break the tie until the 55th minute. Riccardo Calafiori’s own goal, wherein he misdirected Nico Williams’ cross into the goal, brought it about.
It was exactly what Williams and Spain deserved. The winger continued his incredible form from the 2023–24 season with Bilbao, running wild throughout the match.
In 37 matches, he recorded eight goals and 19 assists as the Basque club not only placed fifth in La Liga but also won the Cope del Rey.
Williams has been linked to top clubs as a result of his performances. One team that has been reported to be interested are Liverpool, alongside Arsenal and Barcelona.
Williams’ performance against Spain won him the man of the match award. Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has praised him for it.
What Did Keane Say About William’s Performance?
Speaking on ITV, Keane said: “Pure quality. He has pace, you can’t coach that. We saw [in] the first half he’s a threat.
“When he gets one-vs-one against the full-back, he’s in all sorts of trouble. He can go left or right, we saw with his shooting power and his crossing. Excellent play, best player of the park, strength, a great attitude, strong.”
