Keita adamant Anfield hasn’t seen his best yet

Naby Keita says he wants to start stringing together a run of good performances in the belief Liverpool fans haven’t seen him in his pomp yet. The Guinea international has endured a frustrating time at Anfield since arriving from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2018, concluding an elongated pursuit by the Reds of the 24-year-old
The midfielder agreed to move to Liverpool in August 2017 and having paid out in the region of £55million to get him to England, expectations were high coming into last season.
Keita became known for his playmaking from midfield when at RB Leipzig, regularly getting amongst the goals, but has had to change his style to fit into Jurgen Klopp’s first team.
It has taken some time to adapt to life at Liverpool and injuries haven’t helped him either, missing the conclusion to the 2018/19 season with a groin problem which kept him out of the club’s Champions League final success against Tottenham.
A muscle injury forced him to miss seven games of this season, while he has been an unused substitute in three Premier League matches.
In his only top flight appearance of the season so far, Keita came on to great effect in the 1-1 draw at Manchester United, turning the game in the league leader’s favour.
He followed that up with a good showing in the 4-1 Champions League win over Genk, a performance which saw Klopp signal him out for praise.
Keita hopes he’s about to hit his stride with Liverpool, although he admits a lot will depend on him staying fit for a sustained period. “Yes, I agree it’s a good moment for me now to try to avoid picking up any injuries, and to therefore get plenty of playing time,” Keita told the club’s official website. “I feel that moving on from the recent injury that if I can get to play in a lot of matches, I can really try to help the team where I can.”
If Keita wants a run in Klopp’s team then he will need to prove himself with plenty of competition for places in the German’s midfield.
Georginio Wijnaldum, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson were the chosen three for Sunday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Adam Lallana, James Milner and Keita providing cover from the bench.
