Mauricio Pochettino clashed with Jurgen Klopp as Tottenham crashed out of the EFL Cup at Anfield.
Pochettino took issue with Liverpool for complaining about a tackle by Harry Winks when he claimed Liverpool debutant Trent Alexander-Arnold should have been dismissed for a foul on Ben Davies.
The rival dug-outs also argued over two penalty claims when referee Jon Moss awarded Spurs a spot-kick for Lucas’ challenge on Erik Lamela, but ignored their appeal over Alberto Moreno’s tackle on Lamela.
Spurs converted the penalty and Pochettino said: “I think it was strange that at the end of the game they started to complain.
“The full back, Alexander-Arnold, should have been sent off for his tackle.
“It was strange when their bench started to complain with another bench.
“It is the referee’s authority to say if it was a penalty or not. It was strange.
“They complained about a normal game. Maybe, yes, they were lucky to finish with 11 players.”
Klopp said: “I thought it wasn’t a penalty, but I have to see it again. I thought we deserved to win.”
The Liverpool chief was also left delighted by Daniel Sturridge’s two-goal display, praising the striker’s performance.
“He was brilliant, he could have scored more but was really good,” claimed Klopp.
“That’s his talent [finishing], his strength: He’s a finisher, a really good striker – no doubt about this.”
