Klopp dumbfounded by Liverpool performance in Leicester defeat

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has lamented the fact that his team weren’t physical enough in laast night’s 3-1 defeat against Leicester City.

The Reds went into this game having not played since February 11th, but, instead of being fresh, Liverpool appeared somewhat rusty as they were overcome by a rejuvenated Leicester City side who bounced back in their first game since the sacking of Claudio Ranieri.

Speaking post-match, Klopp said: “The language issues become a bit harder when you lose. It’s hard to find the right words.

“It’s not that Leicester were over aggressive, I think we were not physical enough.

“They were well prepared, they were ready. They had their set pieces well thought out and we were giving throw ins away and what’s frustrating is it’s not like we didn’t talk about that.

“The first goal is difficult to accept and it obviously helped them a lot with momentum.

“It would be hard to explain my disappointment in German but in English its worse.”

Jamie Vardy hit a brace for Leicester, with Danny Drinkwater also on the scoresheet with a spectacular strike, rendering Philippe Coutinho’s goal for Liverpool a mere consolation.

Liverpool remain in fifth place in the Premier League table, 14 points adrift of leaders Chelsea.

Klopp’s side were excellent in their previous game as they prevailed past Tottenham Hotspur but they lacked conviction last night and the manager must surely be concerned by Liverpool’s lack of consistency.

Next up for Liverpool is a home game against Arsenal on Saturday evening.
