Jurgen Klopp has reportedly promised the city of Liverpool he will always be there even after leaving Anfield.
Before coaching his final Reds game on Sunday, the German said his goodbye in an emotional farewell press conference on Friday.
Wolves will visit Liverpool at Anfield, giving Klopp a chance to say farewell to the home supporters. The 56-year-old’s nine years at Liverpool have produced a unique bond with the fans.
In 2022, Klopp was awarded the Freedom of the City of Liverpool in recognition of his accomplishments with the club. He assured the community that he would always be there to support the city in times of need.
“I said it before, I got the key of the city and for some it might be rather funny,” Klopp said as echoed by Daily Express.
“For me, it feels like responsibility. I don’t think the club will need me in the future but if the city needs me, I’m there. I want to be helpful in whatever way.”
Additionally, Klopp has expressed regret to the fans he promised would stick around until 2028.
