Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his delight at his side keeping their first Premier League clean sheet of the season as they drew 0-0 at home to Manchester United.
The Reds weren’t at their best going forwards, with United closing them down with regularity, and Klopp wasn’t particularly pleased with his side’s overall play.
However, Klopp was delighted with Liverpool’s defensive resilience, with centre-backs Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren limiting the influence of striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Klopp told Sky Sports: “We didn’t play as well as we could have played. We started OK and immediately with their defending we weren’t brave anymore, we didn’t wait for the right pass. They didn’t create chances, maybe two in the second half and De Gea made two or three great saves but in the end our performance was not what it should be. It is a first clean sheet, so yippee.”
Despite dropping two points, Liverpool will still be pleased to have extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to six matches and they will be seeking to return to winning ways when they host West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Liverpool lacked their usual dynamism in attack, although their performance did improve slightly following the introduction of Adam Lallana in the second-half.
United also had goalkeeper David De Gea to thank for making some excellent saves, including one to thwart Philippe Coutinho.
