The talk of the town was Manchester United teenager Kobbie Mainoo’s incredible England performance last night at Wembley, as the Three Lions overcame two deficits to draw with Belgium.
Mainoo, who has only played 23 times for Manchester United at the senior level, was called up to the senior England squad last week by Gareth Southgate, and he made his debut for the country in the 1-0 loss to Brazil. Reported By Manchester News.
After that, on Tuesday night, Mainoo earned his second cap by starting in midfield with Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham. Mainoo was excellent, contributing significantly to the first goal, which was scored by Ivan Toney.

Bellingham’s pace and change of direction fed Toney, and after Jan Vertonghen fouled him, Toney scored the penalty. Mainoo played for 73 minutes before being substituted off.

Such was his display, that Mainoo won the man of the match award. Toney praised for the teen’s character after the match – while Joe Cole was full of praise in his analysis of the 2-2 draw with Belgium.
With Euro 2024 on the horizon, and England not playing again until Southgate actually picks his squad for the competition in the summer – Mainoo looks nailed on. Rob Green told him to keep his summer free.
England lack options in that area of the pitch and with Jordan Henderson playing for a struggling Ajax side, James Ward-Prowse failing to build on his early West Ham form – Mainoos emergence is welcome.
