British number one Johanna Konta has announced that her season is over due to injury and she will now concentrate on getting fit for 2020. The 28-year-old, who has not played since the US Open, was due to feature in next week’s WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai but she will not now take part. After a slow start, the Australian-born ace enjoyed an excellent season, reaching the semi-finals of the French Open and the last eight at both Wimbledon and Flushing Meadows. She also made WTA finals in Morocco and Rome but came up just short of the title on both occasions. Currently 11th in the world rankings, Konta will now focus on rehabilitation to her knee which has been giving her pain since losing to Elina Svitolina in New York. It will be disappointing for Konta to end the season without playing as she has risen from 39th at the start of 2019 to her current status of 11th but, with the Australian Open a target, she will now put the work in for another assault on glory next year.
