Bayern Munich boss Nico Kovac says he wants to see more fight from his side as they prepare to face Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. The Bavarian giants head into the weekend’s game in Frankfurt after a 2-1 victory over VFL Bochum in the DFB Pokal.
Having struggled at times against the 2. Bundesliga outfit, Bayern came in for plenty of criticism for the performance, which was labelled their poorest of the campaign so far.
Kovac knows his side were not at the races in their last outing and has urged his players to step up their work rate and aggression, or run the risk of putting themselves in a tough place in Frankfurt on Saturday. “I would like to see more passion in the duels,” Kovac said. “At the moment, we are not there at the beginning. We need a good feeling to get into the game. It’ll definitely be crazy in Frankfurt. “We will have to be wide awake. It might happen that we quickly fall behind — if we act like we have in the past few weeks. It’s a marquee match; Frankfurt is a very good team.”
Bayern have been given a boost ahead of the weekend with Javi Martinez back in training with the rest of the first-team squad.
Kovac has confirmed Martinez could play some role at the weekend but it looks unlikely at this stage that Martinez would be thrown straight into the starting line-up in the hostile atmosphere at Frankfurt.
