Only one player completed more passes than Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke in this season’s Champions League.
The person in question is none other than Real Madrid’s midfield maestro Toni Kroos who recently celebrated winning a third European Cup and second with Real Madrid.
Kroos, the heartbeat of Madrid under Zinedine Zidane, managed 771 successful passes one more than his city rival Koke.
Only two other players also managed to exceed 700 passes: Bayern’s Thiago (712) and Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl (706).
Rounding off the top five is Koke’s teammate Gabi, who managed 689 successful passes, nearly 100 less than Kroos.
Since joining from boyhood club Bayern Munich in 2014, the 27-year-old German international has featured across 147 matches for Los Blancos, registering seven goals and 45 assists in the process.
He’s been instrumental in Real winning a La Liga and European Cup double this season alongside Luka Modric in midfield.
Such is his growing influence, Kroos penned a contract extension last October, which keeps him at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium until June 2022.
