Goalkeeper Tim Krul is hoping his performances for Norwich in the Premier League will earn him an international recall with the Netherlands. Krul has been one of the star performers for Norwich following their return to the Premier League, with his most eye-catching display perhaps coming in Sunday’s 3-1 home defeat to Manchester United, as, despite the result, the 31-year-old saved two penalties from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
The former Newcastle stopper is now hoping to catch the eye of Dutch coach Ronald Koeman and he admits members of the international set-up have been keeping an eye on his performances over recent weeks. “They are watching me,” Krul told Ziggo’s Peptalk. “There is more contact. They are happy to play at the highest level again. “I just have to keep doing this and be important to my team. Then hopefully the Dutch team will come again.”
Krul made his international debut back in 2011 and he has gone on to feature eight times for Holland, most notably at the 2014 World Cup when he came on in 120th-minute of their quarter-final clash with Costa Rica for the penalty shootout and he subsequently saved two spot-kicks to help the Dutch progress.
However, the last of Krul’s international appearances came in a 2-1 victory over Kazakhstan back in 2015 and he currently finds himself behind the likes of Jasper Cillessen, Kenneth Vermeer and Marco Bizot in the pecking order.
