Kvyat furious with stewards

Toro Rosso racer Daniil Kvyat says the stewards are lessening the spectacle of the sport after he was penalised at the Mexican Grand Prix. The Russian was battling with Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg on the last lap when he tried to dive up the inside to overtake him on Turn 16. He hit the Renault and sent him into a spin, meaning he finished outside of the points. Kvyat crossed the line to finish ninth but the stewards deemed him to be at fault for the collision meaning he was awarded a ten-second penalty. It demoted him to 11th in the final race result, propelling team mate Pierre Gasly into ninth and Hulkenberg to tenth and the final point’s position. Afterwards, Kvyat was clearly seething and says it was simply a racing incident. “I don’t want to say too much, because I am still very upset about it, and as a racing driver I strongly disagree with it because they told us we can race, we are allowed to race,” Kvyatis quoted by Autosport.com. “Obviously Nico was defending, I was attacking and there was a clash, but you know, these things happen, especially [at the] last corner of the last lap. “I think people like to see some racing, and if we get penalised for it… they just kill the sport like this, and yeah, I don’t like what stewards do sometimes.”
