Kylian Mbappe has admitted that France have done much research on Republic of Ireland forward Evan Ferguson.
Ferguson is making his professional debut at a time when Mbappe is regarded as one of the best players in the world and recently topped the World Cup in goals.
However, the 18-year-old has already proved himself as one of the world’s brightest talents, having broken into the first-team at Brighton & Hove Albion.
The teenager has seven goals and four assists in 20 outings for the Seagulls, and his performance has earned him a spot in the senior Ireland squad.
Ferguson has three caps, scoring in his full debut on Wednesday as Stephen Kenny’s team defeated Latvia 3-2 in a friendly.
The Republic of Ireland will now hope that Ferguson can further boost his image with an eye-catching performance against the 2018 world champions in Dublin on Monday night as they open their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.
In his pre-match press conference, new France captain Mbappe was asked about Ferguson, and he said that the coaching staff had showed the team clips of the youngster.
According to BBC Sport, Mbappe stated, “He’s a good striker, an important striker for that team.”
“We’ve seen some clips about him, of course, but we hope tomorrow he’s going to do nothing and that means we are going to win and we’re going to do our job.”
