The French striker, who left Paris Saint-Germain in the summer to join Los Blancos on a free transfer, is yet to announced himself at his new club.
Mbappe made his home debut for the defending European and Spanish champions on Sunday Night.
At the Santiago Bernabeu, an enthusiastic 85,000 crowd were waiting for a victory and Mbappe’s first goal of the year. Even though he scored in the UEFA Super Cup on his complete debut, there is still expectation on him to score his first home goal.
But despite Real’s 3-0 triumph over Real Valladolid, his highly expected finish failed to materialize. Fans were disappointed instead by a lackluster display from a player who is expected to win the Ballon d’Or in the future.
For Mbappe, who scored 256 goals in 308 games for PSG, must think that two games without a goal is an eternity. It appears that the media is beginning to examine his lackluster efforts as well.
Some have even said that Endrick outdid him on his big night, reports Mirror
Spanish media were dissatisfied with Mbappe’s performance at the Bernabeu, with Marca reporting: “Mbappe tried but couldn’t score at the Bernabeu. Endrick was the star of the show.”
AS concurred: “It was Mbappe’s party, but Endrick stole the spotlight.”
President Florentino Perez is unmoved by the criticism. The renowned Los Blancos president, who has won seven Champions League championships, is optimistic that Mbappe will eventually establish his value.
