Kylian Mbappe ‘Will Not Trigger PSG Extension This Summer’

Kylian Mbappe has reportedly decided against triggering the option to extend his current contract at Paris Saint-Germain, increasing the chances he will leave the club this summer.

However, Mbappe’s contract with PSG is set to expire at the end of the 2023/24 season, and with the club hesitant to allow the 24-year-old leave for free, he could be transferred this summer.

The 24-year-old scored 29 goals in 34 Ligue 1 games as the Parisians won another domestic title in France, but the league winners were unable to secure the elusive Champions League title.

After joining on a permanent basis from Monaco in the summer of 2018, the World Cup champion garnered interest from some of Europe’s best clubs in recent years.

As things stand, the France international is ready to approach the final year of his contract. He was in a similar situation last year before PSG convinced him to extend his contract.

However, According to Sky Sports, Mbappe will not trigger the one-year extension in his current PSG contract, which means the French club will have to sell the forward this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.

PSG are reportedly unwilling to allow the player leave for nothing next summer, and a departure from Parc des Princes is suddenly looking increasingly plausible.

According to the report, Christophe Galtier’s men are still confident that Mbappe will agree to a new deal that would commit his long-term future to the club, although La Liga giants Real Madrid are thought to be a dream destination for Mbappe.
