Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette warmed up for Saturday’s north London derby against Tottenham by producing what he describes as his best ever performance for France.
The 26-year-old marked his 16th international cap by scoring twice last night as Les Blues drew 2-2 with world champions Germany in Cologne.
Gunners team-mate Olivier Giroud suffered a thigh injury during Friday’s 2-0 win over France – making him a doubt to face Spurs – but Lacazette proved he is in rude health.
“It is my best match for France, there’s no debate about that,” he said. “The coach [Didier Deschamps] told me it was good. It is encouraging, it is good. It is one of the first matches in which I was really a centre-forward, which is my position, in a big game. Of course, I’m happy.
“There’s going to be a long period without a France game now. You could say I have left the coach with a good memory.”
