LaLiga Reduce Valencia Punishment After Appeal Following Racist Chants On Vini Jr

Following an appeal, Valencia’s punishment for racist chants directed against Real Madrid forward, Vinicius Junior has been lessened.

The La Liga side became embroiled in a scandal when Vinicius was subjected to racial taunts by their supporters during their match against Real Madrid last weekend.

Initially, the League Association fined the club £45,000. And required them to close the Mario Kempes South Stand for five home matches.

According to Goal, the fine has now been set at £25,000. And the partial stadium closure has been trimmed from five home games to three by the Court of Appeals.

Valencia has filed an additional appeal, as the team is still in danger of being dropped from the Spanish top division. To ensure that the partial stadium shutdown does not affect their Sunday home match against Espanyol.

For hitting opponent Hugo Duro during the match against Valencia, Vinicius received a red card. However, La Liga ultimately overturned their decision because the Brazilian received racist taunts throughout the game.

A number of athletes, including Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, sent the Brazilian star messages of support. And La Liga president Javier Tebas later apologized to the Madrid player after their social media altercation.
