Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has responded to comments made about his management by his former player Jorginho.
The midfielder said last month that Lampard had been over-promoted and should have taken extra steps before taking a job at the Blues.
Lampard started as a manager for Championship club Derby County and after just one season was offered the role at Chelsea.
His first campaign with the Blues was hailed as a success after securing Champions League football while under a transfer ban.
However, after a short spell of poor form Lampard was sacked in January and replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
Lampard told The Telegraph : “It’s always going to be a fact as a manager when you leave a club, there will be some players who did not play so much and they might have a feeling or a judgement on how you work and they can make statements.
‘For me, I have to expect that as much as I expect the good statements from players who are really positive about how you work. I’ve got no big issue with that.
“I’ve seen some quotes saying that Frank Lampard took this job with his heart. I absolutely didn’t. I don’t make any professional decisions with my heart.”
Lampard went on to say while he didn’t have the long-term success of trophies he wanted at Chelsea, he is proud of what he did at the club.
The former midfielder has not yet taken up another role in football but he could return to where his managerial career began – in the Championship.
He told Mirror Sport : “I would take a view on going into the Championship.
“If it was the right club, the right project for sure. I don’t have an ego where I feel just because I’ve managed in the Champions League, that’s the be all and end all. My year at Derby was such an enjoyable year.”
