Leicester 2-0 Arsenal

Leicester have moved up to second in the Premier League after claiming a 2-0 victory over Arsenal at King Power Stadium on Saturday. If anyone still questioned the Foxes’ top-four credentials before the match, there can be no doubts now after they produced a ruthless second-half display, with goals from Jamie Vardy and James Maddison sealing a well deserved three points.
Leicester started the match on the front foot and thought they had won an early penalty when Matteo Guendouzi appeared to pull back Caglar Soyuncu in the area but neither the referee nor VAR were convinced.
At the other end, Arsenal perhaps should have taken the lead but Alexandre Lacazette’s close-range effort curled agonisingly beyond the far post.
After the break Leicester took control, with Arsenal failing to heed the early warning of Wilfred Ndidi striking the crossbar.
Gunners captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did have the ball in the back of the net shortly after that but was rightly flagged for offside.
The deadlock was finally broken on 68 minutes and it was a lovely one-touch passing move involving Ricardo Pereira, Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans that led to Vardy scoring his 11th goal of the season.
Just seven minutes later and it was 2-0, with Vardy this time turning provider to set up Maddison, who drilled the ball home from the edge of the area.
Leicester are now nine points clear of Arsenal in the Premier League standings, with the Gunners having failed to win any of their last four top-flight games.
