Levante facing Fernandez predicament

Levante could be facing a keeper crisis ahead of their trip to Athletic Bilbao with Aitor Fernandez called up for polling station duty. The 28-year-old keeper has been called up to work at a polling station in Spain’s general election on the morning of Sunday’s match at Athletic’s San Mames stadium.
Fernandez will have to travel to his hometown of Mondragon for the duty, which does pay 65 euros.
The town is situated an hour’s drive from the San Mames stadium, with kick-off taking place at 13:00 GMT.
Having had an initial appeal to avoid the duty rejected, Levante could go into the game this weekend without a senior keeper, as Oier Olazabal is out injured.
With Fernandez set to go in for a second appeal, the Levante shotstopper is hoping for a more positive outcome and is holding out hope he will be able to take to the field this weekend. “The club’s working so that I don’t have to go [to the polling station] on Sunday,” said Fernandez. “I just want to know what’s going on. I’m fully focused on the game and I’m certain I’ll be playing in it. “If needs be I can sleep at home, go down to the station, and then get myself to San Mames by car.”
Athletic and Levante are neck and neck in the La Liga table with both sides on 17 points after the first 12 games of the campaign.
