Robert Lewandowski leads the way with the most goals in Europe’s top five leagues this season, but who else is on a scoring streak? No player from La Liga makes the list, but Ligue 1, the Bundesliga, the Premier League and Serie A are all represented.
5: Luis Muriel, Atalanta, (8 goals)
Atalanta striker Luis Muriel has weighed in with eight goals so far for La Dea and just edges out Manchester City superstar Sergio Aguero for a place in the top five.
Muriel has managed 22 shots so far with 15 of those on target – a shot accuracy of 68% in comparison to Aguero’s 41%. The Colombian has also spent less time on the pitch than the City ace, having played 352 minutes to Aguero’s 575. Indeed, if this list was based on minutes to goal Muriel would be the clear winner with a strike every 42 minutes.
4: Wissam Ben Yedder, Monaco, (9 goals)
Monaco may not be enjoying the best of campaigns as they sit in mid-table in Ligue 1, but Wissam Ben Yedder is having a good run on a personal level with nine goals.
The Frenchman only made the move to the Stade Louis II in the summer and has managed his nine strikes in as many games.
3: Jamie Vardy, Leicester City, (9 goals)
Leicester’s Jamie Vardy is the only Premier League player to make the top five after hitting nine goals so far. The Foxes star has needed 10 games to get to his nine goals but keeps Ben Yedder out of the top three by virtue of managing his haul in just 19 shots, one less than the Monaco man.
2: Ciro Immobile, Lazio (12 goals)
Lazio hotshot Ciro Immobile has hit 12 goals so far and has provided four assists too but just misses out on the top spot. Immobile has managed his total in just 28 shots and has a better accuracy rating than Lewandowski with 64 per cent of his efforts hitting the target, but ultimately only one stat really matters.
1: Robert Lewandowski, Bayern Munich, 13
Polish striker Lewandowski has been one of Europe’s top marksmen for close to a decade now and the 31-year-old is showing no signs of slowing down. The Bayern star has managed his 13 goals in just nine games and if he continues at this rate could be set for his best-ever Bundesliga season.
Lewandowski’s best season in the German top flight to date came with Bayern in 2015-16 when he hit 30 goals in 32 games.
