The Bundesliga has played host to another milestone, the latest of which comes courtesy of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.
The defending league champions have had plenty of records and statistics to shout about this season, but this latest one is a seriously impressive achievement.
Lewandowski is the first Bayern Munich player to score 29 goals in a single season since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who managed the feat in 1980/81.
It’s not the greatest goalscoring record of a single season at the club; an honour that goes to Gerd Müller’s 40 goal campaign in 1971/72; but it’s a massive accomplishment regardless.
Lewandowski is currently ranked fifth this season for goals scored across Europe’s top five leagues, bettered only by Luis Suarez (35), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (34), Gonzalo Higuain (32) and Cristiano Ronaldo (31).
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is looking a bit worried now too, with his 29 goals in the 2011/12 season winning the golden boot for his record number of goals scored by a non-German in a single Bundesliga season.
Bayern are currently leading Ingolstadt 2-1 thanks to Lewandowski’s brace. A win for the Bavarian giants will confirm them as the Bundesliga champions for the fourth time in a row.
