Barcelona forward, Robert Lewandowski has reportedly been backed to usurp Lionel Messi in the UEFA Champions League all-time highest goal-scoring chart.
The striker scored his 99th goal in the competition during Barcelona’s 5-2 victory over Crvena Zvezda on Wednesday night.
The Pole is expected to reach the triple-digit mark this season with four games remaining in the League Phase of this year’s competition.
If he succeeds, he will be the third player in the Champions League to score 100 goals, following Messi and Ronaldo.
Ronaldo has scored 140 goals in the competition, compared to Messi’s 129.
According to EuroSport, TNT Sports pundit Rory Smith believes there is no reason why the Argentina attacker cannot be overtaken, considering Lewy’s longevity.
Lewandowski scored his first Champions League goal in 2011, when Borussia Dortmund lost 3-1 to Olympiacos.
Amazingly, he has scored in 65 more games since then, with 58 ending in triumph and just two ending in defeat.

Later this month, when Barcelona host Brest, the Polish international will have the opportunity to increase that number.
Following that, the Spanish giants will travel to Benfica, Lewandowski’s old team Dortmund, and then play Atalanta at home.
