Bordeaux boss Paulo Sousa has heaped the praise on Lille ahead of the Ligue 1 clash between the two sides on Saturday. Sousa joined Les Girondins in March and the current campaign is his first full season as boss.
The Portuguese coach says Lille are an example of a club Bordeaux should look to emulate after Les Dogues finished second in Ligue 1 last term and qualified for the Champions League. “It [Lille] is a club that invests well, gives stability, has sold well and has also made very good investments to compete in all competitions: the Champions League, which is a very important competition, but also having more stability in our league,” he told Sud Ouest. “They are among the best in our league, with the elements that can make the difference at each position. Last season, it was the team that performed best with [champions] Paris Saint-Germain.”
Bordeaux travel to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Saturday and Sousa is anticipating a “difficult match” but he is confident his side can come out on top.
Sousa’s side have managed 15 points from their opening 10 games but lost at home to Saint-Etienne last time out.
Lille are seventh in Ligue 1, one place below Bordeaux in the table, but have the same number of points. LOSC are winless in five going into Saturday’s match but did manage to salvage a draw with Valencia in the Champions League in midweek with a last-gasp equaliser.
