Lionel Messi has continued to fuel speculation regarding a return to Barcelona this summer after being pictured having dinner with his former teammates on Monday.
Lionel Messi’s two-year contract with PSG is coming to an end, and despite indications last December that the Argentine superstar was leaning toward a renewal, that prospect now appears doubtful.
According to 90min, Parisians have realized that Messi’s contract in the French city is unlikely to be extended. According to the source, previous club Barcelona want to undertake additional talks with Messi’s father.
“I participated in the negotiations that unfortunately did not lead to success.
“I’m gutted that Leo could not continue at our club. If you talk about La Masia, you talk about Messi. Of course, I would love to see him come back, for what it could represent at a sporting, social, and economic level.
“I think the fans too because beautiful stories in life have to have a happy ending. And we are in love with Messi and I think Messi is in love with Barce and the city of Barcelona. We are in contact with them, yes.”
Barcelona defender Jordi Alba spoke about the possibility of Messi’s return last week, though insisted it has never been a topic of discussion among the pair.

“It is Leo’s decision. Honestly, we haven’t talked about this topic, but it’s clear that in the end, seeing Messi with another shirt other than Barça’s is always weird,” he said.
As the weeks go by, it is becoming increasingly likely that a move will happen but there are financial hurdles for Barcelona to overcome and it will be intriguing to see how things play out.
