The concept that Lionel Messi might not have it so easy in the United States after joining a team that was currently dead last in their conference table in Major League Soccer was logical, but the Argentine is now making those thoughts seem a little ridiculous.
The 36-year-old inspired Inter Miami’s 3-1 victory over Orlando City in the round of 32 of the Leagues Cup.
His first came after a beautiful Robert Taylor ball was played towards him, which he calmly received, chested down, and finished.
Messi would later hit the post, and then later on – release a penalty kick to Josef Martinez who converted the penalty. Josef Martinez had actually won the penalty following another excellent pass by Taylor.
Afterwards, the three combined for Messi to fire home a third and his second of the game.

And with 5 goals and an assist in his first 3 games, Messi is currently primed for two goal contributions per game.
As if Messi didn’t have enough service, Jordi Alba also made his debut for the club, coming on in the 64th minute for Inter. It was the first time Alba, Sergio Busquets and Messi had been on the same pitch since the summer of 2021.
Inter Miami are now through to the next round of the Leagues Cup, where they willl face Dallas FC in the Round of 16.
