When Messi’s current contract expires, there have been indications that he may be prepared to leave the United States and return to Argentina.

But according to Argentine publication TyC Sports, Messi is prepared to negotiate a contract that would keep him in Florida for a little bit longer.

Messi’s current deal with the team co-owned by David Beckham expires at the end of the 2025 season.

Messi, who joined the MLS in July 2023, has played a pivotal role in changing Miami’s trajectory. He helped the squad win the Supporters’ Shield this season as they earned a record breaking 74 points in the Eastern Conference.

Miami’s unexpected elimination from the playoffs came after they were defeated by Atlanta United, despite their stellar record.

He is reportedly nearing a new deal that would prolong his tenure until after the event, which is scheduled to begin in North America in June 2026 with the US, Canada, and Mexico co-hosting the World Cup, despite the unceremoniously ending his season.

There are currently rumors that the 37-year-old would make an unexpected appearance at what would be his sixth World Cup due to the duration of the alleged contract, reports Mirror.

The Argentinian tabloid asserted on X that Leo Messi’s contract with Inter Miami is set to expire in December 2025.

A renewal till after the 2026 World Cup is being considered. Although it hasn’t been settled yet, it is expected to be done soon.
