Liverpool Announced The Withdrawal Of Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk, And Trent Alexander-Arnold

Former Watford striker becomes Premier League commentator. Troy Deeney believes Liverpool should prioritize Mohamed Salah’s and Virgil van Dijk’s contracts over Trent Alexander-Arnold’s.

Surprisingly, Liverpool might lose their three top players for free next summer, with Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold’s contracts all set to expire in 2025. The trio has been crucial to the Reds’ success over the years, but it is unknown where all three will play football next season.

With Salah and Van Dijk set to reach 33 and 34, respectively, in the 2025/26 season, it would seem more rational to prioritize Alexander-Arnold’s deal above the others. The Liverpool full-back has been linked with a free transfer to Real Madrid next summer, where he would play alongside Jude Bellingham.

However, speaking on talkSPORT, Deeney believes Liverpool should prioritize Salah and Van Dijk’s contracts over Alexander-Arnold’s. “It’s going to sound really harsh, but in order of priority, I would’ve gone Salah first, Van Dijk second, then Trent,” Deeney told the crowd.

“What I mean is, with Salah, you’re going to need at least two players to reproduce what he offers you in terms of goals and assists. He’s not getting any younger, but aside from Van Dijk, all of their centre-backs are number twos. It’s quite difficult to go out and acquire the number one. It is quite tough, as Manchester United is discovering, to find that number one centre-back.”

“I believe he [Alexander-Arnold] is the easiest of the three to replace [because of Bradley]. You haven’t seen any center-backs like Van Dijk or wingers like Salah.”
