Liverpool Assistant Manager In Contact With Major European Club

Liverpool assistant manager, Pep Lijnders is set to follow Jurgen Klopp out of the club and has reportedly been in talks with Ajax to takeover as their head coach.

Last month, after nine trophy-filled years as manager of Liverpool, Klopp announced that he would be leaving the position. This news shocked the entire football community.

It was confirmed in Liverpool’s statement that Vitor Matos, Lijnders, and Peter Krawietz, Klopp’s assistants, would all follow the German out the exit door at Anfield, leaving a massive void to be filled in the summer.

Since rejoining Liverpool in 2018, Lijnders, 41, has established himself as a reliable member of Klopp’s coaching staff. He frequently speaks with the media during press conferences and even took command of the sidelines when the former Dortmund manager contacted COVID-19 in 2022.

The Dutchman had previously worked on Merseyside for Brendan Rodgers. And he briefly led NEC before assisting the Reds in winning their sixth UEFA Champions League title in 2019.

According to TalkSPORT as claimed by The Metro, negotiations are underway for Lijnders to take over and save Ajax, which is having one of its worst Eredivisie seasons ever under Maurice Steijn. And, most recently, John van ‘t Schip, who assumed interim leadership.

If Lijnders signs with the four-time European champions, he will be reunited with former Reds captain Jordan Henderson.
