Chelsea have reportedly agreed a contract extension with Levi Colwill which will serve as a huge blow to Liverpool and Brighton and Hove Albion.
Colwill enjoyed an excellent loan stint at the Amex Stadium during the previous season. And Brighton was eager to bring him back to the south coast. However, bids of £30 million and £40 million were turned down.
Beginning in July, reports suggested that Liverpool were “confident” of completing a permanent deal, intending to capitalize on Colwill’s uncertainty regarding a new contract.
Football 365 recently reported that the 20-year-old has signed a “six-year deal in principle” that will keep him at Chelsea through June 2029.
Colwill’s salary will be at least £100,000 per week, or £31.2 million over six years. And the agreement is “expected to be finalized soon.”
Axel Disasi’s impending move from Monaco to Stamford Bridge sparked speculation that Colwill’s playing time would be limited.
However, the Daily Mail reports that “the decision to sign the Frenchman is linked to Wesley Fofana’s absence due to a long-term knee injury.”
The 20-year-old, who was a key player in England’s Under-21 team’s summer victory at the European Championship, is “expected to get a fair amount of playing opportunities” at the club.

Disasi will “compete for a starting spot on the other side of the central pairing” while Colwill will “provide cover at right-centre back.”
Colwill proved himself as a top-flight player while on loan at Brighton last season. He featured in 22 games as the Seagulls qualified for the UEFA Europa League.
