Fernando Torres’s former clubs Liverpool and Chelsea have expressed their support after the Spaniard suffered a shocking head injury.
Now with Atletico Madrid, Torres was hurt after a coming together with opponent Alex Bergantinos during his side’s 1-1 draw with Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga.
Players and medics rushed to his aid before he was taken to hospital in the back of an ambulance. There was serious concern among everyone at the Estadio Riazor – with some players on the verge of tears and others praying for the striker.
An ambulance was brought onto the Raizor pitch to collect the forward, who was placed in a neck brace as a precaution before being rushed to the nearest hospital to the stadium.
Atleti later confirmed that their player was okay.
They tweeted: ‘(Fernando Torres) suffers a head injury. He was rushed to the hospital to undergo tests. He will spend the night in hospital for observation.’
Following the incident on Thursday evening his former clubs Liverpool and Chelsea tweeted messages of support.

Torres spent three-and-a-half seasons with Liverpool during which time he chalked up 81 goals. He then joined Chelsea midway through the 2010/11 season in a then record-breaking £50million transfer, however he failed to shine in west London, scoring 45 goals in 172 appearances.
After a loan with AC Milan he returned to his boyhood club Atletico for whom he signed permanently last summer after a season-and-a-half on loan. He has seven goals to his name this term.
