Liverpool Coach Set To Become RB Salzburg Manager

Liverpool assistant manager, Pepijn Lijnders has reportedly been named the new boss of Red Bull Salzburg following his departure from the Merseyside club.

Lijnders, who arrived at Liverpool in 2014 and previously worked under Brendan Rodgers, will depart Anfield with Jurgen Klopp at the end of the current campaign.

“I am very proud to become the new head coach of FC Red Bull Salzburg,” said Lijnders said on Liverpool’s club website as reported by the Irish Times. “This is a real privilege for me. After PSV Eindhoven, Porto and Liverpool, I am now moving to another exceptional club with a really good structure and a particular focus on youth development.

“I want to develop a mentality with the team that places a lot of emphasis on attacking style of play and where passion and hunger for success are the basis of everything.”

Vitor Matos, who served as the team’s elite development coach for four and a half years, has confirmed his departure from Liverpool to become Lijnders’ assistant at Salzburg.
“We will do our best to help the club continue to grow in an ever-changing football world,” he added.
Lijnders previously left Liverpool in 2018 for a short spell at NEC Nijmegen before returning back in the same year.
He won everything there to be won at Liverpool including the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League title in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
The 41-year-old has also won the FA Cup as well as two League Cups with the club’s first ever FIFA Club World Cup.
