Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Dutch attacker Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven in a deal worth €50million (£44m).
The 23-year-old is expected to join Jurgen Klopp’s side at the start of the January transfer window, having agreed to a five-and-a-half-year contract until the summer of 2028.
PSV announced that they had reached an agreement to sell Gakpo to Liverpool on Boxing Day, regardless of the fact that Manchester United were expected to complete a mid-season deal for the attacker.
Southampton and Leeds United also competed for Gakpo’s signature during the summer transfer window, but Liverpool moved quickly to complete a deal before the winter window opened.
Neither party has disclosed the transfer fee, which is expected to be a record for PSV, but Liverpool is expected to pay £37 upfront and an additional £7m in performance-related bonuses.

“I feel really good, I’m really excited to be here. I’m looking forward to start training and start playing for this amazing club,” Gakpo told liverpoolfc.com after passing his medical and signing his contract.
“I think this is a great club for me to come in and try to show what I can [do] and try to help the team to achieve more beautiful moments that they already did in the past years.
“I think for me personally it’s also good to develop here and there’s a lot of great players here [who] I can learn a lot of things from.”
