According to reports from TEAMtalk this weekend, Liverpool is considering signing Ajax defender Jorrel Hato this month. The 18-year-old defender has been identified as a ‘top target’ for the summer, but the Reds may accelerate their interest to improve the squad now.
The report suggests as competition looks likely to increase for the Dutch defender in the summer, attracting interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea, Liverpool would like to get ahead of their competitors and avoid a fierce battle in the summer.
Hato has made 31 appearances in all competitions for Ajax this season, scoring three goals and providing five assists for a total of 2,579 minutes played.

Hato, who played more as a central defender last season, has been assigned to a new position as a left-back who can also tuck inside to become the left-sided centre-back.
This is becoming increasingly prevalent in the present era of football, with hybrid full-backs forming various forms on and off the ball during matches.
Hato’s ability to play as a nominal full-back would allow him to eventually replace Andrew Robertson while also providing backup in central defence in the meantime, which may be highly useful given Ibou Konate’s recent injury issues.
