Liverpool Considering Signing 17-Year-Old Wonderkid Who Has Already Made His Senior International Debut

Liverpool are apparently interested in signing Red Star Belgrade’s 17-year-old starlet Andrija Maksmiovic.

Maksimovic earned his senior international debut for Serbia earlier this month, coming on as a substitute in their 2-0 Nations League victory over Switzerland. In the process, he became Serbia’s second-youngest debutant, trailing only Andrija Zivkovic, who came off the bench against Japan in 2003 at the age of one month younger than Maksimovic.

The midfielder has impressed for Red Star Belgrade, making 11 appearances this season, including a start against Inter Milan in the Champions League. According to Sky Sports Germany, Liverpool is among numerous clubs interested in the teenager.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Juventus, and Borussia Dortmund are reportedly all keeping an eye on his progress. Maksimovic is now under contract with Red Star Belgrade until 2027, and it is reported that a fee of at least €15 million (£12.5 million) would be required to persuade the club to sell.

Liverpool was the least busy of the 20 Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window, adding only one new signing: Italy international Federico Chiesa, who arrived from Juventus for a bargain price.

A contract for goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili was also announced, albeit he will not formally join Liverpool from Valencia until next summer. And new Liverpool manager Arne Slot freely confessed that the club only sought to buy players who could help the team.

During pre-season, the Dutchman explained: “The bar is incredibly high for new acquisitions because we have so many good players, so it is not easy to first identify a player who meets those requirements and then determine whether he is available.
