Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson says the whole team are eager for more silverware this season after last year’s Champions League triumph. The Reds won the trophy for a sixth time in June after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at the Metropolitano.
An early penalty from Mo Salah got Liverpool underway and it was a tight affair until Divock Origi sealed the win with a few minutes remaining.
Liverpool were also one point away from Manchester City in the Premier League title race with them achieving the unprecedented and unwanted feat of earning 97 points yet failing to win the title.
They have made a good start to the 2019-20 season though as they remain unbeaten after nine Premier League games, despite dropping points against Manchester United in Sunday’s 1-1 draw.
While the Reds have been near flawless so far, Pep Guardiola’s City have been below par, and losses to Norwich and Wolves mean they trail their rivals by five points.
Liverpool have also recovered well from their disappointing group-stage loss to Napoli by beating Red Bull Salzburg 4-3 and Genk 4-1 on Wednesday night.
There has been a school of thought that Liverpool may look to prioritise the Premier League over the Champions League, given they have not won a top-flight title since 1990
However, the Brazilian says the squad are aiming to win as much silverware as possible once again this season. “We are in the right way. We have a lot to grow during the season. We achieved big things last season but we don’t want to stop, we want more. “But to achieve more we need to work more and work hard because everyone wants to beat Liverpool, the last champion of the Champions League. So we need to work hard. We have a good chance.”
It has been a frustrating campaign for Alisson so far having been withdrawn in the first half of their opening game of the season against Norwich in August.
He finally made his comeback in the draw with United on Sunday after over two months out, replacing Adrian, and also figured against Genk on Wednesday.
