Liverpool draw has set us up for the season ahead – Rojo

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo claims their 1-1 draw with Liverpool earlier this month has given them extra belief and confidence. United came close to ending their great rival’s unbeaten record this season after Marcus Rashford gave them a first-half lead at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils looked set to hang on but Adam Lallana’s equalising goal dampened the day in Manchester and meant the points were shared in a 1-1 draw.
It has been a difficult start to the new season for United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with questions already being asked about the Norwegian’s future.
However, since that draw with Liverpool, they have beaten Partizan Belgrade 1-0 in the Europa League and then went to Norwich on Sunday and won 3-1.
Incredibly, that was the first time since their 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea on the opening weekend of the season United had managed to score more than one goal in a match.
Solskjaer’s men have had injury problems this term, with Paul Pogba set to be out until December after being ruled out with an ankle problem.
However, there has been some improvement in recent weeks and Rojo thinks that all traces back to the Liverpool game. “After the Liverpool game, I think the team grew in confidence,” he told the club’s official website. “It gave us much more drive and when we went on to get a good result away from home, I think it strengthened our belief and allowed the players to express themselves that bit more, meaning we went back to attacking in the way we usually do.”
United prepare to go to Chelsea on Wednesday evening as they look to try and progress to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, while the Blues will seek to avenge their previous 4-0 loss.
Youngsters James Garner and Brandon Williams are likely to feature, as well as backup goalkeeper Sergio Romero.
The Red Devils then travel to Bournemouth on Saturday where they will seek to pick up back-to-back away wins in the Premier League for the first time since February.
