Former Liverpool midfielder, Naby Keita is reportedly in talks with Turkish side, Istanbul Basaksehir ahead of a move.
The 29-year-old had a difficult year following his free transfer from Anfield in 2022. Throughout the course of last season, the Guinean only made five appearances due to a string of injuries. The fact that players dubbed him the “biggest disappointment” of the Bundesliga served to highlight his decline even more.
The midfielder’s Werder Bremen career appeared to be on borrowed time after he was punished by the club in April for missing a game after being informed he wouldn’t start.
Bremen director Clemens Fritz said “After Naby found out yesterday that he would not be playing from the start, he decided not to get on the bus but to go home. We will talk to him and his agent tomorrow about the consequences and how to proceed.”
In his most recent appearances, he captained Guinea for their three group games in Paris during the 2024 Olympics. He participated in two of the three matches, which they lost to France and New Zealand. But he was not present for their last match against the US.

The 29-year-old’s career has been in turmoil ever since, and currently talks are underway on a new direction. According to Liverpool World, Ed Aarons of the Guardian reports that the former Reds midfielder is almost certain to sign a contract to join Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey.
“Understand that Naby Keita is in talks with Istanbul Basaksehir over a potential move from Werder Bremen. The former Liverpool midfielder also had interest from Sunderland but couldn’t agree terms,” the statement reads.
