Liverpool Handed Injury Blow As Star Set To Miss Real Madrid Clash

Liverpool have reportedly suffered a major injury blow as Kostas Tsimikas is set to be absent from their UEFA Champions League match against Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Unexpectedly, new manager Arne Slot has given the Greek international a bigger role after he began the season as Andy Robertson’s backup. In all competitions, he has made 11 appearances.

Since returning from Euro 2024 with an injury, Robertson has struggled, and Tsimikas has frequently filled in for him. Liverpool have conceded only eight goals in the Premier League, demonstrating the effectiveness of Slot’s rotation philosophy.

Ahead of their matchup with Madrid, the Reds are currently leading the top flight by eight points and are also doing well in the Champions League. However, Slot will be having issues making a decision before that game.

According to The Mirror, Tsimikas is in the treatment room with fellow full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. He is expected to miss the match against Madrid after suffering an ankle injury during a training session.

The 28-year-old did not feature in Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Southampton for Liverpool. He is now on the Red’s injury list alongside Diogo Jota, Federico Chiesa, Alisson, and Alexander-Arnold.

Although Alexander-Arnold has a possibility of playing, boss Slot has acknowledged that he does not anticipate either Jota or Alisson being available for Wednesday’s match at Anfield.

Liverpool will entertain title rivals Manchester City on Sunday after hosting Madrid.
