Liverpool will take a much-needed international break as Arne Slot’s players look to recover from a difficult week. Last Tuesday, the Reds were eliminated from the Champions League on penalties by Paris Saint-Germain, bringing their treble dreams to an end.
Then, their hopes of a domestic double were dashed after a limp 2-1 loss to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday. Liverpool were second best to Eddie Howe’s team, who won their first major domestic trophy in 70 years.

However, there is still more to play for this season, with a record-tying 20th top-flight crown on the way. Liverpool leads second-place Arsenal by 12 points, and history is now within their grasp. With all that said, below are some of the latest media reports from around Anfield.
Transfer claim
According to German tabloid Bild, Bayer Leverkusen player Jeremie Frimpong is being considered for a summer transfer to boost the Reds squad. Frimpong has played an important role in Leverkusen’s success under manager Xabi Alonso, particularly during the club’s unbeaten Bundesliga victory last season.
The report also claims that Slot and Frimpong, both Dutch, communicate frequently and have a good relationship.
Arsenal legend Paul Merson has asked for perspective on Liverpool’s difficult week.
Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “That was a tough week for Liverpool, but let’s put it in perspective. If someone had told you at the start of the season that Liverpool would be champions, you wouldn’t have believed them, would you?
