Liverpool Just A Draw Away From Title This Weekend As Arsenal Are Held By Crystal Palace

Despite losing a late goal in a 2-2 tie with Crystal Palace last night, Arsenal prevented Liverpool from becoming Premier League champions without having kicked a ball.

Mikel Arteta’s players understood that a defeat at the Emirates would result in Liverpool winning the title, but the home side took the lead just three minutes thanks to Jakub Kiwior.

Eberechie Eze’s fantastic volley from a corner brought Palace level before Leandro Trossard scored his third goal in two games to restore Arsenal’s lead.

Arsenal appeared to be on course to win all three points, but a clumsy pass by William Saliba allowed Palace substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta to score with seven minutes remaining.

Arsenal are 12 points behind Liverpool, and with only the same amount of points left in their next four games, Arne Slot’s team will clinch the title with a draw against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday.

Arsenal will now focus on next week’s first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain, while Palace will face Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium on Saturday in their effort to reach the FA Cup final.

Arsenal’s title hopes have dimmed, and they appear to be finishing second for the third season in a row. However, Arteta and his team will have been keen to avoid gifting the title to Liverpool by losing against Palace.

Kiwior raced away of the Palace defence and arrived unmarked to head home Martin Odegaard’s free-kick, his third goal for Arsenal.

To their credit, Palace replied admirably, with former Arsenal player Eddie Nketiah heading wide from a corner before scuffing a shot that he could have taken better. However, Palace quickly leveled the playing field when Eze performed a magical feat.
