Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign Celta Vigo midfielder, Gabri Veiga ahead of the summer transfer window.
Last week, sources in Spain said the Magpies were close to securing Veiga’s signature. However, Newcastle World reported that the claims were far from true.
According to Spanish outlet Revelo as cited by Newcastle World, the favorites now are Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. Veiga has a £35 million release clause and has scored 11 goals in 36 La Liga games this season.
On Sunday night, Veiga celebrated what is probably going to be his final game for Celta Vigo.
On the final day of the season, the La Liga team was in danger of being relegated. They played home to champions Barcelona, and Veiga delivered a performance to remember.
The 21-year-old scored a brace to help Celta avoid the drop and showed emotion throughout the match. Sparking speculation about a possible farewell appearance.
When Veiga gave his team the lead in the 42nd minute, he sobbed as he celebrated. And even though he managed to control his emotions for the second goal, the midfielder started crying as he was replaced in the final 20 minutes.
Veiga, who just signed with Israeli superagent Pini Zahavi, was given permission to depart by Celta Vigo president Carlos Mourino in March.

“We do not want to sell him under any circumstances but they are going to buy him from us,” Mourino said.
“We know some of the offers, we would not have the capacity to pay him what other teams do.”
Numerous Premier League clubs, as well as European giants including Newcastle, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City, are showing interest in the Spain under-21 international.
