As of right now, Virgil van Dijk will be departing the Merseyside powerhouses on a free transfer when his contract with Anfield expires at the end of June.
Although the 33-year-old has once again excelled for Liverpool this season, there is serious uncertainty around his future, and the Reds are reportedly evaluating their center-back options.
Even though Araujo recently signed a new contract with Barcelona, Liverpool is still interested in the Uruguayan international, and a deal is reportedly possible.
During the January transfer window, the 26-year-old was connected to leaving Barcelona.
Nevertheless, he signed a new contract at the end of the month, extending his current deal until June 2031.
However, the South American is not now a sure starter for Hansi Flick’s team, reports Sports Mole.
As Arne Slot’s team gets ready for the prospect of losing Van Dijk on a free transfer, Liverpool is rumored to think they might take advantage of the scenario to make a move for Araujo this summer.
