Liverpool have reportedly prioritised a new contract for Brazil international Roberto Firmino as Jurgen Klopp plans a summer rebuild at Anfield.
Firmino has played an important role in Liverpool’s success under Jurgen Klopp since joining the Reds from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015.
Firmino has won seven trophies at Anfield, including one Premier League and one Champions League title.
In 21 appearances this season, Firmino has scored nine goals and contributed four assists, but an injury has prevented him from playing since the World Cup break.
He has now made 348 appearances for the Merseyside club, scoring 107 goals and dishing out 78 assists in total.
With Liverpool struggling in ninth place in the Premier League table, there is speculation that a rebuild is required to improve the club’s results on the field.
Firmino’s contract expires at the end of the current season, but he still seems to be a part of Liverpool’s long-term goals.
As per Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, the 31-year-old is anticipated to be offered a contract extension until 2025.
According to the report, Saudi clubs were interested in signing Firmino, but he wants to continue playing at the highest level.
