Liverpool are seeking revenge against Mourinho – Henderson

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has revealed that he and his team are looking for retribution on Jose Mourinho and Manchester United when they travel to Anfield.

The 26-year-old has implied that it has been hard to erase the memory of the Portuguese tactician’s Chelsea side snatching a 2-0 win and subsequently preventing the Merseyside giants from winning their first title since 1990 back in April of 2014.

Mourinho celebrated Demba Ba’s goal – courtesy of a Steven Gerrard slip – extravagantly that day by beating his chest and charging down towards the Blues supporters, but Henderson, who missed that game through suspension, is desperate for the away section of Anfield to be silenced by a strong performance by the hosts tonight.

Henderson said, as reported by The Mirror: “I will never forget the Chelsea game at Anfield when we lost when we were going for the title. Just the way they came and played – it was very clever from Jose.

“At the time, we were on fire really and the way they played the game, very slow, sat in. I didn’t play, I was in the crowd, and it was difficult to watch.

“I was shouting at the ref to get things going a bit quicker. They made it very difficult – throw ins, goal kicks, they were taking forever and that got everyone worked up in the stadium.”

United beat Liverpool both home and away, 1-0 at Anfield, in the Premier League last season but The Reds progressed when the two teams went head-to- head in the Europa League.

Henderson has come under criticism for the way he played for England against Slovenia as stand-in captain, but he has been instrumental to the way that Liverpool have played this season with his energy and passing from midfield.

The former Sunderland man will have to alert against United to quell the roaming of Paul Pogba, but may prove to be a key component of Klopp’s team with his deliveries from set plays and shielding of the back four.
