Liverpool are reportedly ready to compete with Chelsea for the services of Barcelona defender, Jules Kounde ahead of the January transfer window.
It’s easy to understand why major teams like Liverpool and Chelsea could be interested in Kounde, who has been a vital member of Barcelona and shown excellent skill at both center-back and right-back.
According to Fichajes as reported by Caught Offside, Liverpool are considering Kounde since Barca may replace him with Sevilla center-back Loic Bade. Sport recently reported that Chelsea were a possible suitor in a €60 million move.
There may be a story to follow because Liverpool have also been connected to Bade recently. However, if Barcelona are intensifying their pursuit of the Sevilla defender, the Reds may be able to try moving for Kounde as a perfectly reasonable backup plan.
With Virgil van Dijk’s Liverpool contract coming to an end. Which means he will become a free agent next summer unless he signs a new deal in the coming months. Anfield is in dire need of a top defensive addition right now.

We’ll have to see whether Barca are truly ready to sell Kounde. But the 25-year-old would be the best candidate to take Van Dijk’s spot. Bade would also be a good choice for the team to think about.
However, Chelsea could also benefit from adding Kounde to their roster because he would undoubtedly be a better central defense option than Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi. And his versatility as a right-back might be helpful given Reece James’s numerous injury issues in recent years.
