Liverpool goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher has reportedly issued a requested to leave Anfield following the signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia.
After agreeing to a £30 million deal to bring in the Georgian goalkeeper, Mamardashvili became the Reds’ first acquisition of the Arne Slot era. Nevertheless, he will play out the season with the La Liga team.
The 23-year-old is thought to be Alisson Becker’s long-term replacement amid Saudi Pro League interest in the 31-year-old. That’s even though Kelleher has shown promise as the Brazilian’s backup on multiple occasions.
According to Daily Express, days after the transfer window ended in most countries, Kelleher announced his intention to depart when he was essentially informed that he would not be ranked first under Slot.
“I made it clear in the last few years that I want to go somewhere and be a number one,” Kelleher said while away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.
“The club has made that decision to get a goalkeeper (Mamardashvili) which makes it look like they’ve made a decision to go another direction.
“Liverpool have rejected a few bids as well. It’s not always in my hands to fully make the decision. My ambition is clear. I’m good enough & I want to go and play week in, week out.”

Mamardashvili, regarded as one of the most promising goalkeepers in Europe, was included on the 10-man shortlist for the Yachine Trophy, which is given to the world’s best men’s goalkeeper at France Football’s annual Ballon d’Or event.
Furthermore, Kelleher stayed at Anfield this season despite interest from other clubs and with a £25 million valuation, so Mamardashvili’s signing was hardly a vote of confidence in him.
