Liverpool, Tottenham Set An Epic Battle For Bundesliga Star

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in a move for Borussia Mochengladbach defender, Ko Itakura.

The 26-year-old has been a consistent performer for the Bundesliga side. And he could end up being a good choice for the two English clubs.

The Japanese star definitely fits the bill for Liverpool, who need to sign a strong central defender to take Joel Matip’s place for the upcoming campaign.

Itakura might be the best backup for players like Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate in the upcoming campaign.

For the Japanese defender, heading to the Premier League would be a great opportunity and a step up in his career. He will look to test himself at the most elite level. And getting a chance to work with a world-class manager like Jurgen Klopp will be an extra boost.

Itakura is at the height of his ability and should now join a team that can contend for major titles in order to advance in his career.

According to a Sky Germany report as reported by FootballTalk, Jurgen Klopp “has his eye” on the defender. And Monchengladbach could demand up to £13 million [€15 million] in the summer to sign him.

Itakura is a teammate of Liverpool midfielder, Wataru Endo who could help the Reds fast-track their move for him.

Liverpool shouldn’t have any trouble spending that kind of money. But Spurs will be a rival as they are also interested in Itakura.

It is not surprising that Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is trying to entice Itakura to move to North London. This is because he has been following the player for some time as he wanted to sign him when he was the manager at Celtic.
